Democrats in the Nevada legislature quickly passed an amendment to punish school boards that prevent biological boys who identify as transgender from using women’s locker rooms and competing on girls’ sports teams .
The amendment, passed Friday without a hearing, would have imposed an administrative penalty of $5,000 per day on state school boards that do not allow students to participate in “school activities” based on their ” gender identity or expression.”
The controversial amendment to punish schools was reportedly added only after the first draft of Assembly Bill No. 423 with unanimous, bipartisan support. The amendment to the bill received zero GOP votes, passing only with full Democratic support.
“Leaving this as an amendment on the floor without any hearings in what could be one of the most controversial discussions in the entire country right now is a huge mistake,” said State Sen. Ira Hansen, R-Nev., in his call to the legislature to reconsider the Democratic amendment and “protect women’s sports.”

Amid ongoing debate over whether biological males who identify as transgender should be allowed to compete in women’s sports across the country, Hansen referred to the bill’s changes as “the Bud Light Amendment” before it passed Friday .
Republican state senators railed against the bill’s sponsors, citing Democrat state Sen. Fabian Doñate, who asks if “the intent of the amendment is to deny school boards the right to block biological males from going to biological females bathrooms, locker rooms, or any sporting events.” Doñate did not return Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

According to the text, the bill was amended to read that “a board of trustees shall not adopt a policy that limits the access of a student because of race, religion, color, national origin, disability, religious orientation sexual, gender identity or expression. , ancestry, family status or gender, in school facilities or activities.”
The amendment introduced by the Democrat then warned that any school that violates the amendment and does not allow students to use facilities based on their “gender identity” will be penalized.
