Lee Sun-kyun, the South Korean actor who rose to international fame after starring in the Oscar-winning film “Parasite,” was found dead in Seoul on Wednesday. He is 48.
Mr. Lee has recently been under police investigation for suspected illegal drug use, and he has denied the accusations. Police said they are investigating the death as a suicide.
The police found the body of Mr. Lee in a parked car in central Seoul just before 11 a.m., according to a spokesman at Seongbuk Police Station, the Seoul district station investigating his death. They found the body after it was reported missing earlier in the day.
Known Mr. Lee worldwide for his performance in “Parasite,” a 2019 thriller in which he played the head of a wealthy family where most of the film takes place. That film won four awards at the 2020 Academy Awards, including for best picture, the first non-English film to win the award.
