Harrison Ford defends the de-aging process he went through for a flashback sequence Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The fifth installment of the James Mangold-directed film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival where the star received a five-minute standing ovation.
At a press conference, Ford talked about the technology used for the de-aging process that made him look younger in the film’s opening sequence.
“Technology has advanced to the point where for me, it seems very realistic and I know that’s my face,” Ford said. “It’s not some kind of Photoshop magic, that’s how I looked 35 years ago because Lucasfilm has every frame of the movie we’ve made together all these years. And this process, the scientific mining of This library has been improved [use]…”
Ford continued, “It’s just fraud unless it’s backed up by a story and it sticks out like a sore thumb if it’s not honest, it’s not real… I mean, emotionally real. And so I think it was used very well.”
The actor said he was “very happy” with the result but never looked back and said, “I wish I could be that guy again,” adding, “I’m real happy with age. I love being older. It’s great be young, but I may be dead, but I am still working.”

Ford had previously stated that this film would be the last time he would portray the character of Indiana Jones.
“This is the last film in the series, and it’s the last time I’ll play the character,” Ford said Total Movie magazine. “I hope this is the last time he appears in a movie.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled for release on June 30, 2023.
