Thrillist named the hippie town in every US stateand the city of Northampton got the title for Massachusetts.
“This independent town sits in the Pioneer Valley, a center of the hippie get-away-from-it-all mentality in the state,” writes Thrillist.
The city is known for its music and arts festivals and has “some of the most progressive/countercultural politics in America,” according to Thrillist.
“Northampton is also full of ‘greenery,'” the website writes, “which you can interpret however you like but which is equally applicable either way.”
The most hippie towns in the rest of New England are as follows, according to Thrillist: New Haven, Connecticut; Unity, Maine; Keene, New Hampshire; Charlestown, Rhode Island; and Burlington, Vermont.
The annual city Paradise City Arts Festivalfeaturing more than 200 artists and makers, will take place in Northampton May 27-29.
