Four people were found dead outside a beachside resort in Cancun on Monday as deadly violence continues to plague the country.
The four bodies were all discovered in the city’s hotel zone near the beach, but authorities did not immediately reveal who the victims were or where they came from.
Two suspects tied to the killings have been arrested, prosecutors in Quintana Roo state said.
The causes of death were not disclosed.
Officials initially said three bodies were found in a lot near the beachside hotel before a fourth body was later found in undergrowth on the same lot.
The gruesome search was made a week after a US tourist was shot and wounded in the leg when several suspects approached him in Puerto Morelos.
It is unclear why the tourist was shot.
The US State Department is warning travelers to “take care” especially after dark in bustling Mexican beach resorts like Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum that face drug cartel violence.
Two Canadians were killed in Playa del Carmen in 2022 over an apparent feud between international drug and arms dealers.
And in 2021, two tourists were caught in a gun battle with rival drug dealers in Tulum.
One of the victims was a California travel blogger who was born in India.
