Hilton’s tempo offers rooms divided into three zones, including “a surrounding sleep environment” with a Sealy Accelerate temperature-controlled and sound-absorbing mattresses; dark lights at sunset; and, in some rooms, Peloton bikes, for people thinking of working out their Ambien.
In Conrad Baliguests can book a private 60 minute SWAY session at the spa (starting at 1,500,000 rupiahs, or about $95), which entails lying in a swinging, aerial, swaddled hammock that looks like an actual cocoon. The rocking is meant to simulate floating on a cloud or being in the womb.
At the Beaumont in London, travelers can stay in perhaps the cocooniest room of them all, called, simply, ROOM (£1,402 per night, or about $1,780), a 745-square-foot suite in three-story stainless sculpture of a man crouching at the hotel entrance. It has no TV, telephone, not even wall art. The aim of British sculptor Antony Gormley, who designed ROOM, was for visitors to “achieve a meditative silence, lose the sense of the body in the darkness and allow the mind to expand.”
You are very sleepy
This month, in conjunction with NSF’s Sleep Awareness Week (March 10 to 16), Mandarin Oriental will begin a partnership with a hypnotherapist. Malminder Gill, aka the Sleep Concierge, at Hyde Park property in London. (After Hyde Park, the service is available at Mandarin Oriental in Mayfair, which will open this spring, followed by pop-ups across Europe, New York and other destinations later this year.) Starting at £500, visitors can see Ms. Gill at the spa for a sleep consultation and session tailored to their specific sleep issues, which Ms. Gill the optimal time of eating and order of swallowing food. There will also be an option for a private bedside session, where, if all goes well, guests will spend the night.
“I tiptoed out,” said Ms. Gill. “I know that’s really weird.”
