Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley derided the US Senate on Thursday as a “nursing home.”
Haley made the comments in an interview with Fox News when asked about the latest phase of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s freeze during a press conference.
“No one should feel good about seeing that any more than we should feel seeing Dianne Feinstein, any more than we should feel good about a lot of things going on or seeing Joe Biden go down,” Haley told Fox News. .

“What I will say is, right now, the Senate is the most privileged nursing home in the country,” Haley added. “I mean, Mitch McConnell has done some great things and he deserves credit. But you have to know when to walk away.”
McConnell was cleared to continue his “schedule as planned” after he froze for more than 30 seconds while taking questions from reporters in Covington, Kentucky, on Wednesday.
“I spoke with Leader McConnell and spoke with his neurology team. After reviewing yesterday’s incident, I informed Leader McConnell that he is medically clear to continue with his schedule as planned,” Dr. Brian Monahan, incoming congressional physician, wrote in a note on Thursday.

“I think we need cognitive ability tests for anyone over the age of 75, I don’t care if they did them at age 50,” Haley told Fox News in the interview.
She continued, “But these are the people who are making decisions on our national security. They are making decisions on our economy, on the border. We need to know that they are at the top of their game.”
It’s been a long time GOP lawmaker previously froze for about 30 seconds during a news conference with other Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, a month ago.
