A large majority of Americans believe President Biden is too old to effectively serve as president for another four years, a poll showed Monday.
An Associated Press-NORC poll found that 77% of Americans say Biden is too old to run for a second term. While an unsurprising 89% of Republicans share the sentiment, an impressive 69% of Democrats say Biden is up to the task, according to the poll.
Meanwhile, less than half of Americans say former President Trump is too old for office, despite being three years younger.
The AP conducted its poll from August 10-14, using a sample drawn from NORC’s probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, which is designed to be representative of the US population. The margin of sampling error for all respondents is plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

The poll also found that American voters increasingly support broad policies aimed at keeping America’s leaders young. Nearly two-thirds of Americans say they support imposing age limits on the presidency, Congress and the Supreme Court.
The poll came just a day after Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Biden at his age during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Host Chuck Todd asked the self-described democratic socialist if he had any advice for the president on “how he should allay those concerns. [to] the public about his age.”
“I met with the president … five or six weeks ago, we had a great discussion. He seems okay to me,” Sanders, 81, replied.
“One way you make it clear that age is not a factor with you is that you’re pretty energetic. We see that you’re traveling the country, you’re making appearances and doing interviews. … It’s clearly an issue for a lot of voters when it comes to President Biden. ,” Todd said on Sunday.
“A candidate, whether it’s Joe Biden or Trump or Bernie Sanders, whoever, you know, they have to evaluate a lot of factors,” Sanders said.
“I think at the end of the day, what we have to ask ourselves is what do people stand for? Do you believe that women have the right to control their own bodies? Well, the president became strong on that. Do you think climate change is real or do you agree with Republicans that it’s a nonissue?” he added.
