• Son of the Viking vs. Commander via pinfall following a 630 senton to retain the AAA Mega championship
Well deserved “This is lucha” chants as these two made most of their showcase. Komander runs the length of the top rope to hit a tope on the floor, and Vikingo fires back with some kind of super Canadian Destroyer, and then a springboard 630 into a table (where the table doesn’t break). . Komander hits his Hidden Ace finisher, but the champ grabs the bottom rope before the three count. They go back up top where Vikingo hits a super sideslam, then his finisher. Both men followed the Code of Honor and hugged it out after the bell.
• The Embassy (Brian Cage, Kaun, and Toa Liona) def. Metalik, Blake Christian, and AR Fox to retain the ROH Six-Man titles. With everyone else busy/incompetent outside, Cage hits Drillclaw on Metalik and pins him. The strength of the champs is too much for the high-flying challengers.
• A newly designed Women’s title is on display for our next match.
• Athena def. Yuka Sakazaki via pinfall after O-Face to retain the ROH Women’s World championship
Sakazaki came in selling a neck injury, and after spiking himself to the outside early in the match the announcers played up a possible head injury to go with it. The sadistic champ targeted the area, but of course the TJPW star fought back with several nearfalls. He showed his fighting spirit, but to no avail.
• Samoa Joe def. Mark Briscoe via referee stoppage to retain the ROH World Television title
Briscoe came out hot, spurred on by a loud “Dem Boys” chant early on. That momentum led to some characteristic reckless attacks that Joe shut down with his own signature quick burst of power. Joe brought in a chair that Briscoe used for his step-up senton (then kissed one of his sons at ringside). He set-up a table where he eventually bulldogged Joe. That Joe’s nose was bleeding, but he couldn’t get rid of it. Mark goes for a tag, but of course his late brother is not there. Briscoe seems to be fired up anyway, and he survives with Joe’s power hitting a Froggy Bow… one, two, NO! He couldn’t get Joe up for a Jay Driller or a Cut-Throat Driver. Joe choked, and when Mark continued to raise his arm, he was thrown into the hold, before it was locked again. The champ pulled Briscoe up for a significant show of respect afterward. Mark spends time with the extended Pugh family at ringside before leaving to a standing ovation.
• Hiroshi Tanahashi def. Daniel Garcia by pinfall after a High Fly Flow
Ace takes control early, allowing him to pop the crowd with some air guitar. Garcia grabbed those gorgeous locks to begin the spin, and did her own dancing taunt before stepping into the driver’s seat with her. Tanahashi fought back — and probably sent a message to Chris Jericho with a Liontamer. The sports entertainer responded with a Shinsuke Nakamura impression, and targeted Tana’s nasty knees throughout and controlled most of the action, but when he missed a piledriver it led to a slingblade and the finish. Garcia refused to shake hands afterwards.
• Lucha Bros def. Rush & Dralistico, The Kingdom, Top Flight and Aussie Open in the Reach for the Sky ladder match to win the ROH World Tag Team champs
The expected madness, with a series of tributes to the Dem Boys as The Kingdom hit one of Darius Martin with the electric chair spot first used against The Briscoes in 2015. Top Flight was central to the action as the team of the announcement the brother played. groups involved. A particularly brutal stretch saw Dralistico send Kyle Fletcher through the announce table, then Matt Taven splashed Dralistico into a ladder. That was followed by a Darius Martin vs, Lucha Bros sequence that ended with Penta and Martin going through four tables on the floor from a ladder set-up between the top rope and another ladder (Martin suffered a bad appearance of the leg injury that took it — more here). Fenix finds himself on the ladder with Taven and Mike Bennett, but fights them off and grabs the belts.
• Mark Briscoe and FTR come out to share a moment in honor of Jay and celebrate with the new champions. The Kingdom joined them as the announce team reminded us that they and the Dem Boys held back the final days of the Sinclair era.
• Katsuyori Shibata def. Wheeler lands via pinfall after a PK to become the new ROH Pure champion
Yuta was joined on stage by her Blackpool Combat Club colleague Jon Moxley, but Mox went backstage after we met the judges — Christopher Daniels, Madison Rayne and Pat Buck. The theme was that Wheeler was in over his head, having to take a low blow with the ref’s back turned and getting a warning for using a closed fist. Shibata was not impressed with Yuta’s attacks, and made him submit causing him to use his rope breaks. The finish came after the Wrestler dropped the younger man with a choke. Wild to see Shibata as an active champion after he almost died in 2017. Yuta refused to abide by the Code of Honor after the match.
