Shannen Doherty revealed on Tuesday that the breast cancer she has been battling for the past few years has spread to her brain in a emotional post on Instagram.
“On January 5th, my scan showed Mets in my brain,” the “Charmed” and “Beverly Hills, 90210” actress captioned a video of her receiving radiation.
“My fear was obvious. I was very claustrophobic and had a lot going on in my life,” said Doherty, 52. “But that fear…. The chaos…. the timing of it all… . This is what cancer can look like.”
The announcement on social media was met with an outpouring of support and encouragement from other stars and cancer survivors.
Longtime friend and actress Selma Blair commented on the post, “It’s a lot to do, again. And I’m wishing for all the wise peace you’ve learned to find yourself in moments of horror. To know that We hold you. Love. All love.”
“You are a fighter,” wrote Sarah Geller, another close friend of Doherty’s.
Doherty has battled breast cancer since 2015, when she received her first diagnosis. She said she underwent a mastectomy and received chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Doherty announced that he was in remission in 2017.
But in 2020, the actress announced a second diagnosis of breast cancer, this time stage 4.
Over the years, Geller has candidly documented her journey with cancer online.
In October of 2021, he posted a selfie of himself lying in bed with his head shaved and his nose bleeding.
“For breast cancer awareness month, I wanted to share more of my own personal journey from my first diagnosis to my second. Is it all good? NO but it is true,” she wrote.
“I hope I encourage people to get mammograms, get regular checkups, cut through the fear and face whatever is in front of you.”
