Sypra has made a name for itself by creating powerful, electronic water guns, the first of which launched on Kickstarter in 2018. Now, the company is adding a third water gun to its lineup, aptly named the SpyraThree , and it includes additional modes for when you want to take your matches seriously or are just looking for some casual summer fun.
Before we get to those, let’s discuss why the Spyra is more than your average Super Soaker — and why it can command its eye-catching $179.00 price tag each gun. Like SpyraTwo (which you can still buy about $5 less), SpyraThree features an electronic firing system that can spray people from about 30 feet away, and can send water nearly 50 feet when you charge a “PowerShot.” This too refilling itself. Stick the muzzle in some water, press the trigger forward, and in seconds you’re ready to go blasting.
It also features a screen to tell you how full your tank and battery are. In a press release, the company says that a full charge will let you reload the tank about 100 times, and that each tank holds “approx. 22 water blasts,” each will hit your enemies with a 30ml bolt of water. By the way, you recharge that battery with USB-C, which is how it should be.
SpyraThree has, you guessed it, three shooting modes, while SpyraTwo only has one. Both feature what Spyra calls a “League” mode, which lets you fire a limited number of shots before it locks you out for a few seconds to “reload,” and gives you access to extra PowerShot. (Side note: I love that Spyra marks this as “tournament mode,” and I really hope that some people approach water gun battles as seriously as some people take up airsoft, paintball, or Nerf. ) However, SpyraThree includes an “open” mode that allows you to shoot as many times as you want, with no artificial reload time, and a burst mode that fires three shots at every time you pull the trigger. The company’s website warns that if you use the latter mode “your tank will drain very quickly.”
Personally, I’m not one to spend $179 on a water gun that comes with a mode for competitive gameplay — there’s just no place for that in my life, even if I wanted one. However, I’m really glad to see that this company is still going strong, giving people that is who are serious about water fights even more options.
