The city of Chicago and NASCAR officials shared Monday a traffic plan for the NASCAR Chicago Street Race, which will take place July 1-2 near the lakefront.
The televised Cup Series event will feature a 12-turn, 2.2-mile course, with NASCAR’s top drivers weaving through the park on closed streets lined with temporary fences, grandstands and what promoters expect thousands of fans.
Parking restrictions:
- Columbus Drive between Jackson and Balbo drives.
Road closures:
- Ida B. Wells Drive is closing east of Michigan Avenue to allow construction of the main viewing areas.

- The temporary road closure will allow for the installation of a track wall.

- Ida B. Wells Drive between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive: Fully reopened after track wall removed.
- Intersection of Jackson Boulevard and Columbus Drive: Fully reopened after track wall removed.
Reopening of roads:
- Columbus Drive between Balbo Drive and Jackson Boulevard: Removed remaining track wall. The curb lane has reopened on northbound Columbus Drive.

- Balbo Drive between Columbus and DuSable Lake Shore drives: Streets and sidewalks have been fully reopened.
Reopening of roads and sidewalks:
- The main streets for reopening are DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive.
- Southbound Columbus Drive between Jackson Boulevard and Balbo Drive: Parking lot and President’s Paddock Club designation removed. The park and sidewalk area along the west side of Columbus Drive has been vacated.
- The activity is expected to end on July 15.
