As expected, Intel confirmed that the 14th Gen Core is based on Meteor Lake
The previously leaked documents do not fully describe how Intel will name its CPU consumer products. However, new shared data can now explain what will happen to the Core series in the near future.
A new chart for OpenVPL (Video Processing Library) hardware support lists the “Future: 14th Generation Intel Core” series as MTL/Meteor Lake. Although there is no mention of the upcoming Raptor Lake refresh, this codename is only attached to the 13th Gen Core series. What this essentially means is that the 14th Gen series should no longer be associated with the Raptor Lake Refresh, unless a minor rebranding takes place later.

Intel’s next consumer desktop Core series will likely adopt similar product naming to the mobile series. One can now expect a Core i9-13950K SKU or anything similar to be part of the Raptor Lake Refresh.
The leaked roadmap only mentions the Raptor Lake-S Refresh for desktops, with no direct plans for the mobile series. More importantly, the existing 700-series platform will remain as is, which means that Intel will now have 2 generations and a refresh (so three waves of SKUs launched) for its existing LGA1700 platform .

As far as the roadmap is concerned, the Intel Raptor Lake Refresh should be launched in the third quarter of this year. Meanwhile, Meteor Lake for desktop shouldn’t appear anytime soon.
